ABMS Names the University of Missouri School of Medicine as This Year's Recipient of Its Quality Improvement Award

PR Newswire (09/24/19)

The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) has announced the University of Missouri School of Medicine (MU SOM) is the recipient of this year's ABMS Portfolio Program Outstanding Achievement in Quality Improvement (QI) Award. MU SOM was recognized for deployment of the Asthma Ready Communities (ARC)-sponsored Asthma Care Accelerator (ACA) Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) QI project, which aimed to lower the rate of uncontrolled asthma in inner-city neighborhoods. The interdisciplinary and interprofessional program set up a learning collaborative to implement asthma practice changes in line with national guidelines and has since been extended throughout Missouri. "Working with organizations such as MU SOM illustrates how ABMS and its Member Boards, in partnership with a wide range of healthcare organizations, can impact patient safety and practice improvement," said ABMS President and CEO Richard E. Hawkins, MD. ARC Director Ben Francisco, PhD, PNP, AE-C, added that the ACA ECHO QI program' success is a testament to "the dedication of healthcare professionals to tackle local workflow challenges needed to promote population health and build resilient partnerships throughout Missouri with school nurses, community health workers, and home environmental assessors."
