5 Ways to Meet Your CME Requirements

AMA Wire (08/16/2018) Berg, Sara

There are a number of opportunities to meet your continuing medical education (CME) requirements. Online options add to the convenience, particularly with busy schedules. The AMA Education Center allows the user to search for CME by topic, source, credit amount and format. One option is journal-based CME, which usually involves reading an article. For a learner to claim credit, they must complete a set of questions or assignments related to the article's contents. Another possibility for CME is manuscript review for journals.

The review should be of an original contribution for publication in a Medline-indexed medical journal, and the editor will determine whether a particular review is acceptable for CME credit. Other options include enduring materials, involving any CME activity that may be completed over a period of time; performance improvement CME; and live activities, which include in-person and remote attendance at events such as conferences, workshops, seminars and webinars.
