About Us

Racial Injustice Statement - June 10, 2020

The latest acts of racism in our country have re-opened many unhealed wounds. Understandably, there is anger, frustration, sadness, and pain within the African American community. We share those feelings. We stand in solidarity with our members of color, particularly those in the African American community.

We are a community of continuing professional development colleagues. One of our greatest strengths is in the diversity of our membership. We continue to welcome and to be the professional home for individuals of all ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientation, and educational backgrounds (both formal and informal). Each of us – together – plays a critical role in advancing continuing education in the health professions.

The Alliance wants to assure all of you in this tumultuous time that we are committed to continuing our mission of empowering the community of health education professionals without racial, ethnic and gender biases.

Bringing about change, however, requires more than words. Change requires action. We want to assure you that we are listening to you and hearing your needs. Our efforts to be strong allies has been ongoing. That is why we are creating a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) committee to ensure our work brings about substantive change. This committee will initially focus on the potential barriers and issues to inclusivity within the Alliance. We realize we can do more to help with career development, mentoring, and cultivating leadership opportunities. We also know that leadership comes, at all levels of the organization, and we will develop ways to support and encourage that. We are committed to the work that needs to happen to ensure change.

We are all in this together to find a better way forward. As we look to the future – our future together, we seek to engage you in a respectful dialogue. We welcome any ideas and suggestions you might have on how we can make the Alliance stronger and more inclusive. You may email your concerns, experiences within the Alliance, and ideas for change directly to the committee at deij@acehp.org or any of the board members are available to listen. You can find their emails and phone numbers in the Member Directory on the Alliance website.

Sincerely,

Alliance Board of Directors
