About the CHCP Exam
The Certified Healthcare CPD Professional (CHCP) examination is designed to assess the knowledge and competencies required for professionals working in healthcare continuing professional development (CPD).
The current CHCP examination, launched in June 2025, was developed based on a national job analysis that identified the knowledge and competencies required for effective practice. The examination reflects current professional practice and assesses candidates across 10 core domains:
- Educational design and adult learning principles
- Program management and leadership
- Outcomes measurement and evaluation
- Accreditation and regulatory compliance
- Interprofessional collaboration
- Data use and technology integration
- Ethics and professional responsibility
- Communication and stakeholder engagement
- Organizational strategy
- Learner needs analysis

How to Apply for the CHCP Exam
Step 1: Review the Eligibility Requirements
Eligibility Requirements (must meet 2 of 3):
- Formal Education
- CPD Informal Education/Engagement
- Work Experience
Step 2: Submit Your Application
Complete the CHCP Eligibility Application and provide the requested information and documentation demonstrating how you meet the eligibility requirements. Applications are reviewed to determine whether the established eligibility requirements have been met. After submitting the eligibility application, please allow up to three weeks for review. Applicants will be notified of the eligibility decision by email.
Approved candidates have one year from the date of approval to take the CHCP examination.
Step 3: Pay the Examination Fee and Schedule Your Examination
Approved candidates will receive instructions for paying the examination fee and scheduling the examination. Candidates may select either an authorized testing center or the available remote-proctoring option.
- To schedule: Visit the registration portal (link will be provided in the email), select ‘CHCP Exam’, and enter your confirmation number, user ID, and password.
- Choose your preferred date, time, and location (in-person or remote).
Testing Options and Locations
- The CHCP exam is a computer-based test (CBT) offered at over 400 sites across the U.S. and Canada during four annual testing periods.
- Remote testing is now available. Select this option when registering.

Exam Format
The CHCP exam includes 160 multiple-choice questions with four answer options each. Of these, 150 are scored and 10 are unscored pretest items used to evaluate future content. Candidates have three hours to complete the exam. The exam is closed-book and offered in two formats:
- In-person testing at over 400 Prometric centers across the U.S. and Canada
- Remote proctoring, allowing candidates to test securely from a location of their choice
Exams are available during four annual testing windows, offering flexible scheduling. The CHCP exam is administered by Prometric, a trusted provider of secure, professional testing services.
Exam Results
Candidates receive their examination results following completion of the examination. Additional information regarding examination scoring, score reporting, and the interpretation of results is provided in the CHCP Candidate Handbook.
Individuals who successfully earn the CHCP credential are added to the Alliance’s National Registry of Certified Healthcare CPD Professionals.
Exam Content Outline
A detailed content outline and job analysis report is available to help candidates prepare and understand the structure of the exam. The content outline identifies the domains and topics assessed by the examination and reflects the results of the CHCP job analysis. The Job Analysis Report provides additional information regarding the process used to define the examination content.
Candidate Handbook
The CHCP Candidate Handbook is the primary resource for candidates pursuing CHCP certification. It contains detailed information regarding eligibility, application procedures, examination administration, scoring, candidate policies, and maintenance of certification.
Candidates should review the current Candidate Handbook before applying for or taking the CHCP examination.
ADA Accommodations Policy
The CHCP Commission provides reasonable testing accommodations in accordance with applicable law. Candidates requesting an accommodation should review the CHCP Examination Accommodations Policy and submit the required request and supporting documentation in accordance with the procedures described in the policy.
