Program Dates: October 13 - November 17, 2021
The Alliance wants to help you acquire the knowledge and skill set you need to be successful in the field of continuing education for the health professions. Fundamentals 101 is a six-week, online program designed to meet the needs of individuals in the CEhp profession for 2-5 years. We welcome CEhp practitioners from all organizational backgrounds to join the 2021 Fundamentals Cohort next fall.
The course addresses Level 1 and Level 2 Practices of the Alliance’s National Learning Competencies and follows the new Alliance Education Curriculum. Using this framework, the course will cover the fundamentals of the field of CEhp – how to effectively use adult learning principles, how to assess the impact of your CPD activities and CPD program, and how to identify your own professional practice gaps in support of your own lifelong learning.
Curriculum
Program Start Date: October 13, 2021
Fundamentals 101 is a six-week, online program designed to meet the needs of individuals in the CEhp profession for 2-5 years. We welcome CEhp practitioners from all organizational backgrounds to join the 2021 Fundamentals Cohort. Throughout the six-week program, members of this cohort will be able to engage with each other and CPD experts via our online 2021 Fundamentals community.
The six-week program includes:
- Virtual kick-off meeting
- Four (4) webinars with subject matter experts
- Access to CPD experts to help answer questions as you go through the program
- Weekly homework assignments
- Online community discussions
- Virtual live learning capstone session
Objectives
At the conclusion of the six-week Fundamentals program, you should be able to:
- Identify at least three new or modified practices to improve your CEhp program
- Discuss the value of your role in CEhp
- Explain the value of CEhp in today’s health care environment
- Use the Alliance’s National Learning Competencies to create a professional development plan for 2021
Curriculum Overview
Throughout Weeks 2 - 5 you will:
- Participate in 4 live webinars with subject matter experts
- Access to resources related to webinar topics
- Participate in online community group discussions around webinar topics
- On-going access to CPD advisers
Week 1: Virtual Kick-Off Meeting | October 13 from 3pm - 4pm ET
The program will kick-off with an interactive virtual meeting where you will get to meet your fellow cohort members, learn how to navigate the community page, and review the program schedule.
Week 2: Adult Learning Principles, Gaps and Needs | Friday, October 22, 2021 from 12pm - 1pm Eastern
Faculty: Carol Havens, MD
In the first webinar of this program. Dr. Havens will share concepts that are foundational to the CME/CE development process. Education isn’t “cookie cutter” or “one size fits all” - how can you develop education based on adult learning principles? This webinar will also touch on identifying gaps, needs, your audience, appropriate interventions, and more! Coming into this webinar, think about your best learning experiences, and later explore how they fit into the concepts discussed.
Week 3: Virtual Events | Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from 11:30am - 12:30pm Eastern
Faculty: Jennifer Thompson, MS and Katie Robinson, PhD, CHCP
During this webinar, faculty will share their experiences with virtual events, including how this landscape continues to shift with time. The group will discuss terminology, and planning considerations with regards to interactivity, faculty and staff prep, and technology.
Week 4: Team Based Education | November 3, 2021 from 2pm - 3pm Eastern
Faculty: Jann Balmer, PhD, RN FACEHP FAAN and Kelly Kraines, BA
Join us to learn about team-based education – what is it (multidisciplinary? interprofessional? Interdisciplinary?), why it is so important, who should be a part of the education, and when it should it be used or not used)? Hear the experience from both a health system and a healthcare professional membership society, and ultimately how this benefits patients through their care journeys.
Week 5: Outcomes | November 9, 2021 from 12pm - 1pm Eastern
Faculty: Greg Salinas, PhD and Riaz Baxamusa, MBA, CHCP
During this webinar, faculty will provide an overview of outcomes, including how levels are defined and ways they can be measured. The group will explore a case study on how to choose what outcomes levels are appropriate, and common mistakes in outcomes reporting.
Week 6: Virtual Live Learning Capstone Session | November 17 from 2pm - 4:45pm Eastern
The program will conclude with a live learning session. Hear from subject matter experts on Incorporating the Patient Voice, trends in CPD, new ACCME standards, and virtual events. Capstone session speakers include Mila Kostic, CHCP, FACEHP, Stanford Center for Continuing Medical Education; Carlye Armstrong, CHCP, AOE Consulting; and Christina Lorenzo, MS, Creative Med Ed Design.
